On Tuesday, February 20th, Great Canadian Holidays & Coaches owners Lorna and Larry were presented with the Meritorious Service Medal, a decoration that is gifted by the Queen and presented by Governor General Julie Payette. One of the highest levels of distinction an individual can receive, the Meritorious Service Decoration was established to recognize the extraordinary people who make Canada proud. Their acts are often innovative, set an example or model for others to follow, or respond to a particular challenge faced by a community. Lorna and Larry were nominated and selected for the award for their commitment to promoting Canadian unity and pride.
Although we often hear that having our coaches dedicated to a variety of Canadian themes is an excellent marketing and brand strategy, it wasn’t the driving force behind Larry and Lorna’s decision to have our coaches pay tribute to Canada. The night of the near disastrous 1995 Quebec referendum, defeated by a margin of only 1 percent, Lorna and Larry made a decision to do everything they could to remind Canadians all that we have to be proud of and what makes this country great. The company’s fleet of motor coaches soon became tributes to Canada on wheels, with vibrant exterior graphics including Great Canadian Women, Our Nation Builders, Great Canadian Moments, Lest We Forget, Canadian Sports Achievements, just to name a few. With our coaches travelling all across Canada and the United States, they turn heads wherever they go and serve as a reminder of all the many, many things we have to be proud of as Canadians.
